I’m a huge fan of The Office, and here for the Instagram bookstagram memes, reels, and audios featuring the one and only Michael Scott. Whenever I watch the show, the infamous boss says something I can relate to as a writer- even if it has nothing to do with writing. It can bring a much-needed humor break to the thick of writing (which, who doesn’t need?)
For your comic relief, 14 times Michael Scott captured what it’s like to be a writer:
“Well, it’s love at first sight. Actually, it was… no, it was when I heard her voice. It was love at first see with my ears.”
When you’re not a romance writer but need to write a romantic scene.

“Webster’s Dictionary defines wedding as: The fusing of two metals with a hot torch.”
When you confidently misuse a common word in that first draft and humble yourself with the definition.
“When I discovered YouTube, I didn’t work for five days.”
Anytime you have time to focus on writing, and literally anything else exists.

“Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.”
To be honest… I am a fan of Wikipedia as a research platform. Let’s just check the sources, people.

“It takes an advanced sense of humor. I don’t expect everybody to understand.”
Whenever I write something I find hilarious but doubt the audience will.
“I’m not gonna cry over it. I did that in the car on the way home.”
Every time another query rejection comes in.

“And I knew exactly what to do. But in a much more real sense, I had no idea what to do.”
Me during the entire self-publishing process of my children’s book.
“OK, too many different words from coming at me from too many different sentences.”
When I go back to edit the first draft.

“I hate it! I hate it. I don’t hate it, I just don’t like it. At all. And it’s terrible.”
Sometimes when I re-read anything I wrote.
“No question about it, I am ready to get hurt again.“
When you start querying agents again after that break or final rejection letter.
“After three years of writing, one year of shooting, four years of re-shooting and two years of editing, I have finally completed my movie, Threat Level: Midnight.”
How I feel about my work-in-progress novel, Comet.

“Some days, I am just on fire.”
Whenever I write more than 1,000 words in one sitting.
“Sometimes I’ll start a sentence, and I don’t even know where it’s going. I just hope I find it along the way.“
When I’m trying to break free from writer’s block.
“He had no arms or legs. He couldn’t see, hear, or speak. This is how he led a nation.“
Me when I try to come up with new book ideas after too much wine.
